Detailed Plan

OVERVIEW
The Fraser Straits Marina will deliver much-needed facilities to the Tin Can Bay region and in doing so, will help promote tourism and recreational boating and fishing.

Unlike many other marina developments along the Queensland coast, the Fraser Straits Marina does not include residential components.

Rather, it is a stand-alone marina with its viability under-pinned by the need for the facilities which it will provide.

FACILITIES
250 wet berths catering mostly for vessels mostly from 9 metres to 15 metres but with some berths designed for vessels up to 25 metres.

Stage 1 comprising five fingers of 149 berths.

240 dry storage berths catering for power boats up to about 9 metres in length.

The dry storage facilities are to be built in two stages, based on demand. Both stages to accommodate about 120 berths.

Marine-related retail and services facilities located adjacent to the dry storage berths.

Hardstand areas

250 to 300 car parking spaces

Combined trailer boat parking as presently exists

A new kiosk and marine services facility

A public waterfront boardwalk

A public promenade on the waterfront

Increased waterfront access for the public

Dredged material handling area at the eastern and south-eastern end of the development. Queensland Transport requires this area to be created by the developer at its cost and then subsequently given to Queensland Transport to facilitate maintenance dredging of Snapper Creek.

The developers also are in discussions with:

Tin Can Bay Coast Guard about the provision of new and improved berthing facilities as well as other assistance.

Cooloola Shire Council about providing a public jetty for activities including recreational fishing.

TIN CAN BAY YACHT CLUB
The Fraser Straits Marina development offers significant benefits, free of charge, to members and visitors to the Tin Can Bay Yacht Club. Benefits include a new two storey club house, twice the size of the existing one, free of charge along with associated facilities including a new private launching ramp within the yacht club area, new dinghy launching facilities and the free replacement and upgrading of some other club assets. Club members have voted to accept the offer upon approval of the Fraser Straits Marina development application and a contract being approved by the club's management committee.

PUBLIC ACCESS
The Fraser Straits Marina development will significantly increase the amount of waterfront access available to locals and visitors.

An integrated public waterfront promenade and timber boardwalk have been incorporated into the design and sandy, gently sloping, waterfront embankments are being created along the eastern and southern boundaries of the development. The planned development does not interfere with the current boat ramp, car and boat trailer parking facilities. They remain untouched, other than landscaping enhancements.
